An afternoon at Astra Commons

An afternoon at Astra Commons

On Sunday 13 September, I headed to Astra Commons at Arrayah in Drummoyne expecting to spend four hours building. Getting there on public transport was a bit of an adventure, but I’m very glad I made the trip.

I had our family robot game, Neon Breach, to work on. Astra was going to help upscale and improve the game graphics. I thought that would keep me occupied for most of the afternoon.

Instead, I spent most of those four hours talking to people while the work continued in the background. I didn’t even need to get my laptop out. I managed the whole thing from my phone.

What I loved most was where the conversations went. We talked about the problems people were trying to solve, the ideas they were exploring and what they hoped to make better. There was so much sharing of perspectives and genuine interest in each other’s work.

Having Codex available remotely meant I could be present for those conversations, meet people and swap ideas while Neon Breach got an upgrade. That’s the part I find useful: being able to choose what to do with my time while the work keeps moving.

And on the train home, Astra made a mobile video of the game for me too.

My notebook summed up the afternoon pretty well: “I talked. Astra built!!”

A huge thank you to the Codex Ambassadors for bringing everyone together, and to Arrayah for hosting us in such a warm, creative space. The conversations made the journey worthwhile.
